About the series..........

Optioned to bring it to the small screen, The Sgt. Windflower Mystery Series takes place in Newfoundland on the east coast of Canada. It features Sgt. Winston Windflower, an RCMP officer and a Cree from Northern Alberta, who is stationed in the small town of Grand Bank. It is about history and mystery but it is also about food and fun and friends.

A Twist of Fortune is the fourth book in the Sgt. Windflower Mystery Series and it continues the adventures of Sgt. Windflower as he tries to solve crime and experience the joy and the sadness of life in a small maritime community. Follow along as he feels the sometimes bitter taste of an east coast winter and the unique culinary delights of this part of the world.

Our review.......

Cleverly avoiding the genre clichés upon which many crime novels are mapped, Martin has created a beguilingly complex character in Winston Windflower. Charismatic and generally amiable, but with an underlying hardness when it comes to solving crimes, his approach is refreshingly unorthodox. These traits are certainly evident in Martin’s latest release. Relying on good, old-fashioned detective work to solve his cases, Windflower thrives in a skilfully nuanced, though not overly contrived plot that delivers a number of surprises, but it’s the dialogue and the subtleties of Windflower's character that really makes this superb detective novel stand out. On many levels he defies our expectations, living his life according to values which are wholly congruent with the setting that surrounds him and it’s due credit to Martin that he captures the beauty, contrasts and grandeur of his chosen backdrop to create a real sense of visual ambience. In the main, this dictates the pace of the narrative as Martin’s acerbic pen brings a host of familiar faces to the fore. There’s no need for overly hyped action scenes, crime touches the community and it’s this that makes it feel so real.

Compelling and intelligent reading, A Twist Of Fortune is another fine addition to an excellent series. Deserving of your interest and a place on your bookshelf it is recommended without reservation!
