After the tragic loss of her husband, Annie and her young son search for a new life full of meaning and hope. Fate nudges Annie into the arms of a man whose wife disappeared with his child years ago. Annie’s life spins out of control when first the pregnant teenager she hires to help her with her garden asks Annie to adopt her baby and shortly afterwards the long-lost wife of the man Annie loves reappears. Riddled with grief and heartache, the experiences demonstrate how, even in the face of overwhelming sorrow, opening her heart and home to those most in need of love has reaped unexpected joy for Annie and her son.
In an age dominated by irony it’s always refreshing to come across a book that’s so sincere it quickly sneaks past your defences, and the latest release from Patricia Yager Delagrange certainly fits the bill. Rapidly building an enthusiastic following and becoming quite adept at writing the go to books you read when you need something to lift your spirits, Passing Through Brandiss is about love, second chances and salvation. It’s one of those novels that makes you think about, and will probably make you shed some tears over, the power of love. Not just romantic love, but the platonic love of family and friends, which in Delagrange’s capable hands proves just as touching and compelling. Not the kind of writer that falls victim to convention or clichés she simply presents us with a marvellous story. She doesn’t aim for flawless. Relationships are cracked and riddled with human frailties and it's these that Delagrange captures so well whilst bringing compassion to her characters that’s refreshingly devoid of condescension. Never striving for effect, she simply delivers a story that will be lovingly read by her many fans whilst being sure to garner many more.
A cut above the rest that will leave you feeling you’ve read something rather special, Passing Through Brandiss is recommended without reservation.
