"A Powerful and fascinating foray into the future of science and its unforeseen consequences"
A shipwreck. A lost treasure.
A hell of a race from one to the other. Brendan Le Grange has delivered a winner!
It's hell being a teenager. Larna Collins has never understood why her dad skipped out on her and her mother when she was twelve years old. Until then, he was a devoted and loving father. But six years later, during a renovation of her childhood home, she unearths her father's journal from under a dusty floorboard. According to his final entry before he left, he had recently visited a small parish in England.
The entries drew her to this seemingly quaint village, which Larna discovers isn't as charming as its blood-craving inhabitants want her to believe, and she learns that she isn't the only one trying to track her father down. Could this explain her father's disappearance? Or was placing her in the center of danger her dad's master plan all along?
An intriguing and memorable debut that will surely mark Misty Hayes as an author to watch, The Outcasts - The Blood Dagger: Volume 1 proves originality is still very much alive and kicking in this ever popular genre. Hayes certainly understands the requisite elements of urban fantasy and whilst the expected tropes are present she never the less goes a long way towards making them her own. This may be her debut novel but brusque prose takes her readers on a daunting journey of otherworldly discoveries whilst a surreal air of mystery prevails throughout. With an imaginative and richly layered plot, she combines the best elements of paranormal fiction to keep the pages turning. There’s action, danger and nail-biting twists as her young protagonist finds herself thrown into a shadowy world where the stakes are high whilst supporting characters loom large in the imagination.
A genuinely enthralling start to a new series Misty Hayes is clearly suited to the genre with the promise of more good things to come. Highly recommended The Outcasts - The Blood Dagger: Volume 1 proves a must read.
